Shropshire Roads for Me
It's that time of year with Autumn well established and Summer a receding memory so when a couple of nice Autumn days came around I decided to go for a ride around the counties of Hereford and Shropshire. It stayed dry throughout and, although my gear kept me warm enough, the temperature rapidly cooled down as evening approached. The weather for the first day was the better of the two days with the sun making a welcome appearance. I didn't book a place to stay overnight and I almost came unstuck at Shrewsbury where many of the hotels were full. Used to be that you could find a bed easily enough at this time of year?
Interesting contrasting the two counties with Shropshire definitely having the best landmarks and riding roads of the two counties. West Herefordshire was good where Herefordshire abuts Wales but East Herefordshire was a bit of a disappointment being a bit too busy and touristy for my tastes. For me, Shropshire definitely has some of the best motorcycling roads in the country. I really enjoyed riding Shropshire's curvy roads.
Favourite landmarks were Long Mynd where the Midland Glider Club is located. A lovely spot high above Church Stretton and there was certainly enough wind for them. The Black Hill was also a lovely spot but be warned that it's a bit of a trek getting there. Worth it I thought. Iron Bridge and Clee Hill brought back some old memories of previous National Rallies and, as always, there were a few RBR landmarks I had been to in the past. I will also have to go back and do the RAF Museum justice and spend some time there.
