Monmouthshire has lots of Castles

The Jetstream had decided to mess with our summer weather during July and August 2017 so when I got up 15th August and found the weather to be promising I decided that I would take the Varadero for a ride around Monmouthshire. Some of the roads around Monmouth and the Wye Valley are favourites of mine. I took a clockwise route around Monmouthshire starting off at Chepstow and finishing at Tintern.

Old Monmouthshire used to extend further west into what's now Gwent so I used that as an excuse to include a few landmarks located around Pontypool and "The Valleys". I must admit that some of those were a bit hard work to get to involving a lot of town work. The Valleys and their past interests me. Blaenavon is always worth a visit and it was a nice run from there up to Blorenge.

Sugarloaf was a lovely spot but the road to it is single tracked and can get congested. Well worth the effort I thought. After Sugarloaf the roads that took me around the top of Monmouthshire and back doown its Eastern side were lovely. I did find that a bit of care is needed when riding the Monmouthsire narrow winding lanes as the locals can appear quite rapidly. Monmouthshire has its fair share of castles and a fair few of the landmarks are castles.
